Feliz Cumpleanos, Mami Lupi!

A good friend, Marlene, ordered a red velvet cake for her mom's birthday last weekend. She wanted it to be a chocolate wrapped cake with strawberries. I really love these cakes. I love making them, I love eating them, I should really advertise them more because they are so beautiful and unique. I am glad Marlene remembered that I can make this cake. Her cake was red velvet with cream cheese frosting and for the filling she want Nutella and whipped cream, I wish I could have tried that unique combination. Anyway, the cake came out tall!!! It almost did not fit in my fridge on the shelf. This made me realize that with all this baking I might need to invest in an extra refrigerator. It was fully loaded with baked goods this weekend. Good thing I never have time to cook anymore otherwise that would have been an extra challenge. I hope Marlene's mother enjoyed her day and her cake. I hope your family is doing well, Marlene.

Diana's 4th Birthday !

One of Javier's co-workers, Patricia, ordered some cupcakes for her little niece, Diana's, 4th birthday. She wanted princess-themed red velvet with cream cheese frosting cupcakes. I decided to make little fondant toppers that were princess themed. Some of the cupcakes spelled out "Happy Birthday Diana." Others had a flowered "4" on them and I made butterflies, crowns, and flowers for the other toppers. I was really happy with how everything came out. I had extras so I know they tasted pretty good too!! I hope Diana had a wonderful birthday!

Ricardo's Birthday Shindig

My friend Ricardo is always a riot. I must admit I really look forward to seeing him because I know it is going to be a fun time. Helen (another amazing friend, who I am sure will have her own blog post in the future) asked me to bake him a cake for his birthday. She asked for a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream. Also, with some type of a poker theme. So this is what I came up with. It was really fun to make and I thought it came out well.

Happy Birthday, Ricardo!!

I finally get a Coach bag (well sort of . . .)

This week we learned how to make carved cakes which is something I have wanted to do for awhile. The assignment was a purse in the style of a coach purse. It was so much fun and I really learned a lot about making cake into different shapes.

Tiffany Box Cake

I love this cake. This was my first time making a square cake. I did not make enough blue fondant so that sides had to be rolled out really thin which is why it was sagging :( But it is all about learning from my mistakes. The bow was fun to make and I really liked using luster dust as paint, that was new for me as well. This cake was not rolled and covered but instead cut out as panels for each side, which I also think added to the sagging effect. I have also added pictures of how the other cakes came out and the process of asssembling this four layer cake with strawberry filling.

This was the example cake. And mine coming together.

The cake looked a lot smoother here!

Whimsical Fondant Cakes

This was a cake I made a few weeks ago. I love the bead maker that I bought to do borders. It makes the border look like pearls. The roses are fun to make as well.

Happy Birthday, Matt!

I love this cake! Norma, my friend from college and future librarian colleague, asked me to make a cake for her husband, (they are newlyweds!!!). When asked what kind of cake, she said a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and something "cat-ish". Awesome!! I googled some cat cake images and went with it. He was pretty happy with it I think. You can see the enthusiasm in the last pic ;)

Happy Birthday, Matt!!

The happy couple.
